Hollywood is getting new lifeguard stands next year.

Lifeguard towers are becoming the new status symbol on South Florida’s beaches. Cities are rolling out artsy new stands meant to turn heads with whimsical designs and cheerful colors. The impetus might be Miami Beach, which started the trend in 2015 after winning awards and inspiring headlines with its iconic Art Deco-style designs. One tower resembles a lighthouse with red and white stripes. Another, inspired by The Jetsons cartoon, is round and painted hot pink. Supporting our Beach Life Guards.

The Hollywood Beach Business Association presented a check for $3,000 to Bruce Wilkie of the Hollywood Lifeguard Team.  The money is raised each year due to the diligent efforts of Jeff Hansen of Cahoots Newspaper during Groundhog Day at Ocean Alley and pays for expenses so the lifeguards can compete at the United States Lifesaving Association annual competition.  This was the largest check so far to help our lifeguard team attend this event.
