Statement from Mayor Levy Regarding Shooting Incident on Hollywood Beach.

Beach Investigation Leads to All Suspects Arrested.

A Message From : Josh Levy,  Mayor of Hollywood .

As you may have been relieved to hear on the news this morning, all five of the South Broward teenagers who were involved in the shooting that occurred on Memorial Day at Hollywood Beach have now been arrested by the Hollywood Police Department.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to the community for assisting law enforcement and showing that we stand united in not tolerating such behavior in our cities and public spaces.

The collaborative response that we saw from the public, law enforcement, good Samaritans, paramedics and medical professionals highlights the power of unity when we stand united against crime and come to the aid of those in need.

Moving forward, let us continue to support one another, remain vigilant against any form of criminal activity, and foster a culture of care and responsibility.

While our law enforcement agencies are diligently working to address and prevent all forms of violence, it is essential to understand that targeted incidents such as this often arise from specific conflicts and underlying issues, which further emphasize the significance of early intervention and community support in preventing, identifying and resolving such disputes.

Remember the “See Something, Say Something” principle in maintaining the safety of our community. If you see something suspicious or know something, say something.

It is crucial that we instill in our youth the understanding that if they witness or hear about any situation that may pose harm to someone, their responsibility is to confide in a trusted adult, whether it be a teacher, a parent, police or any reliable person. Keeping our community safe requires the active participation of each and every one of us, and by empowering our youth with this knowledge, we are fostering a culture of care and vigilance.

I want to express my appreciation for the efforts of law enforcement agencies, including the Hollywood Police Department, FBI, FDLE and U.S. Marshals who worked tirelessly to bring these perpetrators to justice.

Be sure that our city leadership is steadfast in its commitment to providing highly capable police and rescue services in Hollywood. We spare no expense investing in public safety, funding the highest levels of personnel possible and equipping them with advanced technologies such as CCTV surveillance cameras and other tools which aid in crime prevention, detection, and investigation. Leveraging these resources creates a safer environment for everyone in our community.

Let us continue to build upon the strong foundation of trust and unity that we have cultivated in Hollywood. Together, we can create a future where criminals will know to avoid our city and where the well-being of our residents is shared value that we all care for and protect.

Thank you for being an integral part of our community and for your continued support.

              Sincerely yours,

              Josh Levy

CBS 4 Report on the Fifth and Final Arrest

I am deeply saddened and angered by the Memorial Day shooting in our city that resulted in injuries to innocent bystanders. Our thoughts go out to the victims and their families during this difficult time and our prayers for a speedy recovery. It is completely unacceptable that innocent people spending time with family on a holiday weekend have been affected by a shooting altercation between two groups who came into our city with guns and no regard for the safety of the law abiding public around them.

Law enforcement agencies are fully engaged in their investigation, and I assure you that no stone will be left unturned in bringing the perpetrators to justice. We will utilize every available resource to apprehend those responsible for these injuries.

I want to emphasize that the safety and well-being of our residents and visitors is always our top priority. Hollywood Police has dozens of officers assigned to the beach on busy holiday weekends and that allowed for an immediate response that resulted in multiple persons detained for this incident.

I am thankful for the many good samaritans and the paramedics of Hollywood Fire Rescue and Beach Safety who rendered quick emergency aid to the injured at the scene, and thankful for the emergency room doctors and nurses at Memorial Regional Hospital and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital for their life saving work year-round.

I urge anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and cooperate with the authorities. It is vital that we all stand united against violence and work collectively to create a safer environment for everyone. In the wake of this event, let us remember that our community’s strength lies in its resilience and compassion. We must support one another, offer comfort to those affected, and work diligently to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

Thank you, and together, let us strive for a safer and more peaceful country.

Sincerely,
Josh Levy
City of Hollywood Mayor
